BBT: Fatigue Analysis

On behalf of the engineering consortium ILF/Geodata/HBI we performed a detailled fatigue analysis of the air pressure stress imposed on cross-cut doors by trains running through the Brenner Base Tunnel.

High-resolution 1D computational fluid dynamics (CFD) algorithms have been used to simulate the 24 hour air pressure load history emerging at 10 selected observation points. These results have been aggregated for the estimated 200-year life span of the tunnel using the Rainflow Method to form a resulting fatigue damage spectrum.

EFKON: Software for Mobile Enforcement Vehicles

Since 2002 Christoph Lechleitner (formerly IBCL) and Wolfgang Glas (formerly ev-i) develop and maintain the software for the 250 control vehicles of the german electronic truck tolling enforcement unit (MOKON) as subcontractors of EFKON AG, Graz.

This project initialized the long-standing partnership which finally amounted in the founding of ITEG IT-Engineers GmbH in July 2011.

The MOKON software package is comprised of a central GUI application which asynchrounously interfaces several systems:

HA-Dispatcher: Highly scalable toll collection front

The highy scalable toll collection front end HA-Dispatcher was developed by ev-i Informationstechnologie between 2006 and 2010. In 2011 it was taken over by ITEG.

HA-Dispatcher allows servicing of up to 20.000 simultaneously connected GSM devices for toll projects, smart grid applications or the like.

It is currently in use in the toll project Spitsmijden Brabant in the Netherlands, where 5000 OBUs are in use.

illwerke vkw: Dam Information System

Development of the TIS Dam Information System of Vorarlberger Illwerke AG was started in 2010 by ev-i Informationstechnologie GmbH and KISTERS AG. This was the stepping stone for the ongoing cooperation between KISTERS and ITEG, and the starting point for the development of our visualization product TISGraph. The project was successfully completed in 2011.

TIS utilizes the constant stream of structural measurment data from sensors embedded in the dams in combination with models derived from statistical analysis of historical data to predict the deformation of the dam structure depending on factors like the outside temperature and water storage level. In the course of this project, a number of new deformation models where developed for the large dams of Illwerke AG.

illwerke vkw: Drust and TISGraph

Lasting from Summer 2012 until early 2013, ITEG refurbished the 1D computational fluid dynamic program “Drust” for Vorarlberger Illwerke AG (VIW).

The program started as an in-house tool of VIW and uses FORTRAN-Modules written by Illwerke Engineers describing water hammers in surge chambers, turbines, pumps and pump turbines.

Based on these FORTRAN modules, VIW has been able to design some of the most innovative hydro power plants since the 1980ies, which are renowned for their utmost operational reliability.

Siemens: Stress Assessment Module

As part of a contract with Siemens AG Germany we implemented several extension modules for the existing software package “FatAss”, a toolset for fatigue assessment of steel and aluminum components.

The extension modules implement German state-of-the-art fatigue norms DVS 1608 and DVS 1612 complemented by a comprehensive test suite of both unit tests and real world examples.

The project also included the development of geometry and stress interface modules for the commercial FEM programs Ansys, Abaqus und HyperWorks. Compared to the possibilities of standard FEM programs the delivered solution offers the following key benefits:
